JusticeAI: Turning Conflict Data into Actionable Evidence

Technology has enabled more and more people to bear witness to their own history, testifying digitally against the perpetrators of human rights violations. It’s our role as technologists to support human rights advocates to responsibly preserve and use that information. AI automates and improves the process of analyzing and making actionable the huge amount of data coming out of these crises, forming a path to justice that was not previously available.

Benetech is working with the United Nations’ International, Impartial, and Independent Mechanism (iiiM) on Syrian accountability along with an array of Syrian civil society organizations to use the estimated 4 million videos related to the conflict as evidence. By applying machine learning and computer vision to these videos, we hope to help them assess human rights violations and promote accountability and the rule of law in Syria and conflict settings worldwide.
