Our Impact

Benetech and Poverty Alleviation

Inequity demands social action. Lack of access to education, employment, health, housing, and justice holds back human progress. Benetech worked to level the playing field by providing innovative software solutions that strengthen the social safety net through increased community collaboration, connect at-risk communities to critical social services, and empower them to gain meaningful employment.

Service Net

Service Net is an open standards data exchange platform that makes it easier to share and maintain information on local social and human services.

Many organizations are trying to provide a bridge to the safety net for people who need it, in part by maintaining directories of social services so that they can effectively refer their clients to the right resources. However, the majority of these organizations maintain information about these services redundantly in siloed resource directories that organizations expend significant resources to update manually. Benetech developed Service Net in partnership with community-based organizations, 2-1-1s, and other referral organizations to enable them to effectively share accurate information about available human services.

Benetech transitioned the Service Net project to advisor Greg Bloom, of the Open Referral Initiative and their fiscal sponsor, Aspiration in 2021. Our organizations are closely aligned on enabling access to accurate human services information and helping the social sector use software tools more effectively.
