Paving the Way With Bookshare

We build software for social good. Here are the solution(s) that Benetech has brought to scale.

Bookshare

Bookshare is the world’s largest library of ebooks for people that read differently. The collection has nearly a million titles and empowers hundreds of thousands of people who cannot read traditional books due to disabilities like blindness, low vision, and dyslexia. Readers can listen to books, see and hear words as they are highlighted, read in braille or large font, and customize their reading experience in ways that work for them.

Human Rights Solutions

Benetech’s human rights software solutions empower human rights defenders around the world to pursue truth and justice. Martus, was an open source software application that empowered human rights defenders to safely gather and organize information about rights violations, and store that data securely. Martus has been used in over 50 countries, to document over 245,000 documented cases of human rights abuses. Benetech continues to support human rights defenders today with our software, including our JusticeAI platform. JusticeAI’s artificial intelligence enables conflict data to be turned into actionable evidence to promote justice and is currently being used to analyze the massive amounts of human rights data related to the Syrian conflict.

Miradi

Miradi is an open source, adaptive project management tool for conservationists. It allows nature conservation practitioners to design, manage, monitor, and learn from their projects to more effectively meet their conservation goals. It has become the platform of choice for large conservation organizations, local and regional groups, researchers, nonprofit, for-profit, and governmental organizations and is used in more than 170 countries. In 2014, Benetech celebrated a milestone by exiting Miradi and turning ongoing management and maintenance over to the conservation community.
