National Reading Month Publisher Spotlight: G-W earns GCA status

By Carrie Motamedi, posted on

Goodheart-Willcox “G-W” became a Bookshare partner at the end of 2021 by sharing digital files for their new titles directly with Bookshare. Becoming a partner in this way is a great first step for publishers to begin their accessibility journey. Benetech is thrilled to congratulate G-W on becoming GCA Certified. We also want to thank G-W for their commitment to the needs of students and instructors who rely on G-W publications to achieve success in both education and career. Below is a commentary from Maureen Brennan, Director of Marketing at G-W on the reason behind their commitment and many reasons to celebrate this milestone in March.

Q: Why was it important for G-W to become GCA certified and what do you see as the greatest benefit you pass on to the audience you serve?

GCA Certification is important to the G-W team because it ensures that our titles meet the accessibility needs of every student and instructor. We created an internal Accessibility Working Group to ensure that we remain committed to our mission of delivering products that provide the best possible learning experience to all users. Through the Accessibility Working Group’s efforts, we have remained steadfast in our commitment to achieving this certification and we’re thrilled that we have accomplished this goal.

As a trusted educational partner for more than 100 years, G‑W continues to operate with a vision that began in 1921: to provide the highest quality content at a great value and take good care of our customers—and we believe that providing GCA Certified resources does just that.

Q: March is National Reading Month. Why is it important to put a spotlight on reading?

Reading is an essential first step in learning—making reading easier helps students gain background knowledge, build skills, and ultimately find their path to a successful future. We are very proud to announce our GCA Certification during National Reading Month, as we help to remove barriers to reading and provide resources that adapt to any learning style.
