Benetech Names Christy Chin as Chair of its Board of Directors

Chin is a Managing Director at the Draper Richards Kaplan Foundation and has served as a member of Benetech’s Board of Directors since 2009. Chin succeeds longtime Chair and Benetech Founder, Jim Fruchterman.
“Christy has made invaluable contributions to Benetech since she has joined our Board of Directors,” says Jim Fruchterman, who continues as Benetech CEO. “She brings the perfect mix of expertise in the philanthropy sector and demonstrated commitment to supporting social entrepreneurs. I am delighted she is stepping into the role of Chair of our Board and am certain that her insight, leadership, and passion for social innovation will tremendously help Benetech advance its mission and strategic goals.”
Before joining Draper Richards Kaplan in 2009, Chin was the Deputy Director of The Philanthropy Workshop West at the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, an executive leadership program for high-net worth individuals committed to increasing the effectiveness and impact of their philanthropic work. Prior to Hewlett, she was a Senior Program Officer at the Skoll Foundation, where she selected and supported recipients of the Skoll Awards for Social Entrepreneurship and led efforts to develop the field of social entrepreneurship. She also has for-profit experience in venture capital with Bedrock Capital Partners and Norwest Venture Capital.

Chin holds a Master of Business Administration from the Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Colgate University.
