Benetech Staffer Mario Oliveros Among 48 Nonprofit Leaders Selected for Spring 2014 American Express Leadership Academy
By Benetech, posted on June 3, 2014How will the next generation of leaders help address our society’s most pressing social issues? What skills and knowledge do they need to be prepared to take on meaningful leadership roles, and how can they harness these skills to achieve the greatest impact?
These were some of the questions discussed throughout the week-long American Express Leadership Academy, which Benetech Global Literacy Senior Marketing Communications Manager Mario Oliveros attended last month in New York City. On the Social Enterprise Alliance (SEA) blog, Mario shares some of his observations and takeaways from the week.
Alongside eight other SEA members accepted to the Academy, Mario was part of a cohort of select 48 nonprofit leaders from across the country. Designed to address the pending leadership gap in the nonprofit sector, the Academy offers a comprehensive training that focuses on helping emerging professionals develop the business and people skills needed to lead high impact nonprofit organizations.
“For me,” writes Mario, “the Academy provided an incredible learning experience. I returned with an action plan for continued professional growth as well as impact on the work of my team, which I will be implementing together with my colleagues.”
