I’m excited to announce that Benetech’s Bookshare initiative has recently crossed over 1 MILLION accessible ebooks under management, and we continue to grow. In addition to Bookshare’s huge collection of over 700,000 titles, Benetech manages hundreds of thousands of books for our partners around the world.
At the end of 2017, I shared Bookshare by the Numbers. Since then, our collection and membership has continued to grow and reach new milestones. Digital content is on the rise in classrooms across the country. Much of this content comes in the form of ebooks. Unfortunately, not all ebooks are accessible to students unable to read standard print due to low vision, blindness, or dyslexia. Procurement staff—either at the state or school-district level—must know what to look for in order to identify and procure content that works for all students.
Volunteers come in all shapes and sizes and contribute in a myriad of ways. At Benetech, we rely on an army of volunteers, advisors, mentors, ambassadors, experts, working groups, and community leaders to help us achieve our mission, which is to empower communities by creating scalable technology solutions. Without their collective expertise and skills, the reach and impact of our work would not be as great.
