Yogen Dalal, Renowned Silicon Valley Technologist and Entrepreneur, Joins Benetech Board of Directors

Benetech has announced the addition of Silicon Valley entrepreneur Yogen Dalal to its Board of Directors. Dalal is an engineer and former managing partner at venture capital firm Mayfield Fund. Over the last 20 years he has invested in the communications, enterprise software, and Internet consumer and infrastructure sectors.

“Yogen Dalal will provide Benetech with invaluable guidance as we strengthen our leadership role at the intersection of the technology and social change sectors,” says Benetech CEO Jim Fruchterman. “His expertise and experience working with entrepreneurs to create technology solutions with the maximum impact are the perfect fit for us. We are delighted he has joined our Board.”

Prior to joining Mayfield Fund in 1991, Yogen was a founding member of two startups, Claris Corporation and Metaphor Computer Systems. He was also a member of the original Star and Ethernet development teams at Xerox, and, while at Stanford University in 1974, a co-author of the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) Specification—the fundamental communications protocol that allows the Internet to operate as the diverse global network it is today.

In 2011, he stepped down from his leadership role at Mayfield Fund and successfully transferred this responsibility to the next generation. More recently, Yogen is co-founder and chairman of Glooko, Inc., a new company making mobile tools for improved management of diabetes.

“I am delighted to serve on Benetech’s Board of Directors,” says Yogen. “Technologists and entrepreneurs want to affect change for the largest population of users as they possibly can. Benetech under Jim Fruchterman’s leadership has demonstrated its ability to use technology to solve important societal needs, and the organization is now at an inflection point where it can leverage these successes and insights into solving other important, unmet needs. My experiences as a technologist and a venture capitalist can be helpful in quickly evaluating whether new ideas and initiatives can succeed.”

Yogen earned a Ph.D. in electrical engineering and computer science from Stanford and a B.Tech. in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay where he was honored as a Distinguished Alum.
